Alam Polo takes its name from Alamuddin — the family name Amal and Natasha shortened when they started coaching out of one hired lane on a Monday night.
Why water polo, and why now
Water polo asks a lot: you tread water for a quarter, you get grabbed, and you throw with one arm while holding your ground with the rest of you. It is exactly the kind of sport that makes a teenager feel powerful. It is also, historically, one of the least accessible sports for a girl who covers.
The barriers were rarely about talent. Mixed sessions, glass-walled pools, swimwear that rode up or slowed you down, and coaches who assumed a hijab meant a spectator. The sisters took each barrier in turn and removed it.
Meet the coaches
Amal Alamuddin
Head Coach & Co-founder
Amal played club water polo through university and now leads technique and match play. She is happiest teaching the eggbeater kick until it clicks.
Natasha Alamuddin
Programme Lead & Co-founder
Natasha runs the beginner pathway and the equipment side of Alam Polo, sourcing kit that lets players cover up without slowing down.
What we hold to
Safety
Screened pools, women staff, and coaches trained in aquatic rescue at every session.
Faith
Prayer times respected in the timetable, and never a moment where covering up feels awkward.
Sisterhood
Players arrive alone and leave with a team. Guardians and sisters are always welcome poolside.
Sport
This is real water polo — technique, conditioning, and matches. Modesty is a condition, not a ceiling.
