What to bring
- A burkini, swim hijab, or whatever you swim in — we can lend kit for your first three sessions
- A towel and a change of clothes
- A water bottle; the pool hall is warm
- Goggles if you like them, though they are optional
Your first session
- 1
Arrive
Come to reception fifteen minutes early. A coach meets you and walks you to the changing rooms.
- 2
Warm up
Ten minutes of easy swimming and floating, in water you can stand up in.
- 3
Learn one thing
Usually the eggbeater kick, or a two-handed catch. One skill, done properly.
- 4
Play
A short game with soft balls and no scoring pressure. Then tea, and questions.
Questions we hear a lot
- Are the sessions really women only?
- Yes. Every Alam Polo session runs in a screened pool with women-only lifeguards, coaches, and reception staff for the full booking.
- What if I can't swim well yet?
- The Monday and Friday sessions stay in water you can stand up in. We teach floating and treading before anyone touches a ball.
- Can I wear a burkini or a swim hijab?
- Always. Our coaches wear them too, and we can lend kit in most sizes for your first few sessions while you decide what suits you.
- Do guardians need to stay?
- For juniors under 11, one guardian stays in the poolside seating. Older players are welcome to come and go independently.
- What does it cost?
- Sessions are indicative at £8 drop-in or £28 monthly. Hardship places are held at every session — just ask, no paperwork.
